The Assistant Director-Marketing and Business Compliance represents Technology Ventures (the technology transfer office) to industry and maintains communications with targeted industry contacts. Working with licensing personnel, the Assistant Director-Marketing and Business Compliance supports the licensing of technologies and provides support and guidance to the licensing associate responsible for the technology and may assume the lead in negotiating license agreements in complex or high-profile situations. The Assistant Director-Marketing and Business Compliance manages the relationship between University and licensees and provides process leadership to ensure compliance and maintenance of executed agreements. The Assistant Director-Marketing and Business Compliance reviews and analyzes proposed license agreements from a business perspective prior to approval and execution. In the review process, the Assistant Director-Marketing and Business Compliance identifies changes necessary to ensure that license agreements are implementable as written to ensure fair and reasonable terms for the contributors/inventors and the University of Arkansas. The Assistant Director-Marketing and Business Compliance ensures that final agreements reflect these negotiated terms. The Assistant Director-Marketing and Business Compliance will manage licensee compliance with all license terms. This position performs other projects as needed.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
At least five years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
MBA, PhD, and/or JD with experience in license agreement administration and IP transactional analysis
Certified Licensing Professional (CLP)
Registered Patent agent or Patent attorney in good standing with the USPTO
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of US intellectual property laws
Knowledge in passive and active marketing of IP
Knowledge of IP contract terms
Knowledge and familiarity with tools for the protection of intellectual property
Knowledge of IP license and contract enforcement
Skilled in the review of licenses and contracts related to IP transactions
Skilled use of IP marketing software and online platforms
Use of software for tracking IP value and return skills
Demonstrated organizational and communications skills
Ability to communicate effectively in person and across many platforms

Technology Ventures is part of the University of Arkansas’ Fayetteville campus. Each of our team has an appointment in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Innovation. We work closely with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the University of Arkansas Technology Development Foundation.
