The Professional Development Specialist oversees and manages internal training and development projects and processes to support and implement innovative programs to onboard, train, mentor, develop, engage, and retain the firm’s attorneys with a focus on associates and professional development initiatives. This individual is a point person to ensure the highest level of client focus and consistency is used during the development and execution of training programs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Support, implement and manage firmwide projects. Examples of those projects are Associate Retreats, Associate Review Process, Firmwide First Year Associate Orientation and the Mentor program. The Director of Professional Development will assign those projects as they arise.
Regional and Global Practice Group Responsibilities
The Professional Development Specialist will collaborate with the Director of Professional Development and Professional Development Managers with firmwide projects, regional/office responsibilities and global practice group responsibilities. Those responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
The PD Specialist will be assigned to the Western Region (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County, Silicon Valley, Sacramento, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Denver) to help oversee the associates in those offices. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Learn about the office/region and build relationships with the associates. Develop an understanding of the office and the associate population.
Builds relationships with the Career Development Liaisons (CDLs) in the region.
Creates and implements local and regional training programs.
Onboards and integrates associates.
Lead associates and project meetings as necessary.
Serves as a resource for CLE.
Builds relationships, communicates and collaborates with BDs, HR Managers and Marketing staff.
Reinforces or advertises webinar programming to associates and encourage attendance
Manages the office mentor program.
Works with the Professional Development Coordinator on program logistics.
Assists with the associate evaluation process and associate business development plans for the region.
Global Practice Group Training and Programming
Works with PD Managers to develop practice group training and identify effective teaching methods.
Oversees course catalogs and resources related to the practice group.
Evaluates programming and recommend content and process improvements.
Tracks and provides reports on Practice Group PD efforts and training metrics.

Qualifications & Prior Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
A minimum of 5 years of attorney professional development experience in a law firm or comparable experience in a professional services firm.
Familiarity with learning management systems, adult learning techniques and online learning technologies a plus.
Strong Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills required.
