The Assistant Manager of Planned Giving reports to the Director of Planned Giving and is responsible for the administration, monitoring and tracking of all active and deferred planned gifts. Additionally, the Assistant Manager helps manage the Walter Piston Society (currently at 415 members) and will work to grow the Society by seeking planned gift donors. As the successful candidate, you will be an organized, driven team player who is able to collaborate professionally with both internal and external constituents with an impeccable attention to detail and accuracy.
Document, process, track and administer all planned gifts including gift annuities, pooled income funds, charitable remainder trusts, life insurance policies, charitable lead trusts, bequests and other estate gifts, and other deferred giving arrangements. Will need to work effectively with BSO staff members, donors, family members, attorneys, advisors, representatives of financial institutions and others.
Assist in the management of the planned giving recognition group, the Walter Piston Society, including stewardship of donors, developing individual and group recognition opportunities and managing and tracking Society membership.
Manage a personal portfolio of approximately 300 Walter Piston Society members to ensure their annual giving is secured and recognized and develop an individual stewardship plan for their planned gift.
Serve as initial contact for all planned giving inquiries from the Planned Giving phone line and website.
Assist with the implementation of a comprehensive marketing plan for the Planned Giving program.
Prepare reports, update records and extract information from the Tessitura database.
Help identify prospects through work with internal colleagues and through data analysis.
Assist with the management of the board activity, as it relates to the Planned Giving program.
Assist in the preparation of deferred gift calculations and proposals for staff officers, other staff members and volunteers using PG Calc software.
Provide administrative support to the Director of Planned Giving.
Interest and/or background in the arts preferred.

Excellent time and project management skills with strong attention to detail, customer service focus and interpersonal skills.
Strong ability to independently problem-solve, think strategically and be proactive.
Excellent verbal/written, communication and presentation skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sensitivity.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Two to three years professional experience (preferably in a development office) required, with some knowledge of planned giving concepts desirable.
Knowledge of database systems including prospect management and other development software strongly preferred.
Occasionally attend events and/or concerts on nights and weekends at Symphony Hall in Boston and at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA.
Travel in the Boston-area, Tanglewood or New York City, as needed.
