We are seeking a Bilingual (Spanish/English) Immigration Attorney to assist and provide direct legal representation in Immigration matters and related proceedings for immigrant children (ages 13 to 18) throughout Long Island. Responsibilities consist of immigration removal proceedings and family court proceedings that will include cases involving asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status and other forms of relief. This position is full-time and is accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off (vacation/sick/personal), 17 paid holidays, health/dental, free life insurance, and a retirement savings program. This position is grant funded.
? Conduct and document thorough client intakes.
? Manage caseload providing direct representation.
? Provide representation in immigration removal proceedings in US Citizenship and Immigration Services, and state court proceedings.
? Collaborate with other agency attorneys representing clients in Immigration, State Court or other proceedings.
? Screen clients for trauma, abuse and trafficking and refer clients for additional services.
? Assume general administrative responsibilities, including grant compliance, timekeeping, case management and other tasks related to program compliance.
? Complete outreach and deliver presentations to the immigrant community and stakeholders.
2-3 years’ experience in Immigration or Family Law.
Juris Doctor Law Degree and Bar Admission, NY State.
Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
2-3 years’ experience working with children preferred.
Valid NYS Driver’s License.
Ability to work flexible hours to meet program needs including some weekends.
Occasional visits to temporary living sites, travel to immigration and state courts on LI and NYC.
