Over the last several years, the University of Florida Levin College of Law has expanded our national profile through a number of strategic initiatives. Several of the achievements include:
enrolling our most highly credentialed J.D. class and ranking 15th in the country in student selectivity;
continuing commitment to diversity - 30% of the incoming class are racially or ethnically diverse students, 45% are women, and 23% are first-generation college;
hiring fourteen new full-time faculty members over the past 18 months;
unveiling a new Office of Career and Professional Development with four new full-time student advisors;
renovating 15,000+ square feet to create a beautiful, new student-centered space;
investing in our Graduate Tax program and maintaining our ranking as the third best tax program in the country; and
announcing more than $55 million in new contributions, including a record-breaking $20 million to endow a health law program.
The changes at our school have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as we reached our highest-ever ranking, placing 31st among all law schools, 12th among public law schools, and 1st in the state of Florida. To continue our success and trajectory, we are seeking a dynamic Assistant Dean for the Office of Career and Professional Development who embraces an environment of innovation and continual improvement and seeks to be a part of this exciting time at the school.
The Assistant Dean will be a strategic thinker who brings enthusiasm and energy to the Office of Career and Professional Development to ensure the Office educates students and graduates about national and local legal markets, expands employer relationships, and develops innovative professional development initiatives. In addition to managing and overseeing the Office of Career and Professional Development, the Assistant Dean will serve on the Dean’s Leadership Team to develop and execute strategies to maximize career opportunities for students and raise the profile of students amongst employers nationwide. The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver and entrepreneurial in spirit. We are looking for an Assistant Dean who embraces a data-driven approach and a culture of continuous improvement to ensure that the Office of Career and Professional Development plays a key role in the Levin College of Law’s quest to become a top-ten public law school. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB AND THE PERCENTAGE OF TIME SPENT ON EACH FUNCTION
Create and execute programming to connect employers to our students throughout Florida and nationwide. Conduct outreach to and develop relationships with potential employers, oversee the outreach efforts of Office members, and coordinate employer outreach by faculty, administrators, and alumni. Develop and execute strategies to educate potential employers about the strengths of our students, expand the number of employers interviewing our students, and advocate for our students with employers nationwide. Develop and execute strategies to increase the placement of students and recent graduates in elite law firms, prestigious public interest positions, and federal clerkships.
Cultivate a welcoming and customer service-oriented culture at the Office of Career and Professional Development so students will maximize the services and support of the office. In collaboration with our talented team of academic and career advisors, develop and execute programming designed to educate students about law school success strategies and diverse careers in legal markets nationwide. Develop ways to track and maximize attendance at programming events, to target programming to subsets of students, and to record and monitor the Office’s interactions with students and students’ progress toward their goals.
In consultation with the Dean and members of the Dean’s Leadership Team, establish yearly targets and action plans, develop weekly reporting systems, and regularly evaluate progress toward goals. Work with the Director of Academic Strategic Initiatives and Compliance to report employment outcomes to the American Bar Association, the National Association for Legal Career Professionals, and U.S. News. Lead the day-to-day operations of the Office of Career and Professional Development by supervising and developing staff members and maximizing Office procedures and systems.

Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate years of experience; or bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience.
D. degree with several years of experience as a practicing attorney strongly preferred.

Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Flexibility, the ability to manage multiple projects under pressure, and the ability to balance priorities.
Knowledge of the legal marketplace and issues facing law students and career services.
Demonstrated understanding and ability to collect and analyze data and provide summary reports.
Preference will be given to candidates who have managed hiring at elite law firms, worked in a law school career services office, have experience placing associates and partners in law firms, and/or have overseen attorney professional development programs at elite law firms.
This position requires facilitative and interpersonal skills in order to connect with diverse audiences of students, faculty, alumni, and employers. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential for conducting effective outreach and programming.
