Kay Electric Cooperative is seeking qualified candidates to succeed the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will retire in March 2021. The Cooperative will accept applications through July 31, 2020.
Kay Electric Cooperative is a member-owned cooperative serving parts of five counties in North Central Oklahoma. KEC employs 47 employees serving approximately 6,000 consumers over 2,200 miles of distribution line and has annual revenue of $34 million and total utility plant of $57 million. KEC is a high load factor, low line loss, 100% 14.4 voltage system with 15 substations. Physical Infrastructure is in excellent condition. The cooperative’s revenue mix of load is 25% residential, 40% small commercial and 35% large commercial, with 50% equity on assets totaling $84 million.
Kay Electric’s headquarters is located in Blackwell, Oklahoma, one hour North of Oklahoma State University, one hour south of Wichita, Kansas and just over an hour north of Oklahoma City. KEC purchases 100% of their wholesale power from Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, is a member of the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives, NRECA, NISC, Federated Insurance and is a 100% CFC Borrower.
Interested applicants should have a minimum of 10 years electric utility experience, preferably within the rural electric program, and at least 5 years of leadership experience in a senior management position. A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field is preferred, with broad electric utility management experience and/or knowledge that includes such areas as operations and safety, finance and accounting, rates, strategic planning, team building, and member communications. Applicants must possess high integrity and have excellent people and communications skills, proven leadership ability and a strong commitment to “Cooperative Principles”.
