Snell & Wilmer seeks to hire a driven self-starter to oversee the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion, Women’s Initiative, and Community Involvement efforts. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a team atmosphere. Travel with firm leadership to all offices and community engagement in each of our markets will be expected. Duties will include:
Advance the work of the firm’s Committee on Diversity & Inclusion
Work closely with the Executive Committee and Diversity & Inclusion Committee chairs in establishing goals, objectives and milestones to advance our firm’s commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace, including programs designed to attract, promote and retain diverse talent.
Design, develop, and implement diversity and inclusion strategies consistent with the firm’s established goals.
In consultation with the Committee chairs, establish meeting agendas, and lead Committee meetings.
Track and report on progress of yearly diversity and inclusion related goals and engage firm leadership to ensure such goals are attained.
Oversee the firm’s standing diversity and inclusion programs including the Fellowship for Advancement (“FAR”). With respect to FAR such duties include building relationships with FAR schools, promoting the FAR program, and taking responsibility for all applications through final selection.
In consultation with the Diversity & Inclusion Committee chairs, identify, propose, implement, and facilitate internal and external diversity and inclusion related trainings and educational events.
Design and monitor process to track diversity and inclusion engagements of our attorneys and offices.
Work with the Marketing Department in building the firm’s reputation as a leader with respect to diversity & inclusion efforts (through the firm’s website, surveys, RFP’s, external press releases and other social media, formal and informal networking in each of our markets, and publications in magazines and professional journals).
Manage all diversity and inclusion related RFPs, client reports, surveys, benchmarking reports, and award submissions (in 2019 Snell & Wilmer responded to over 50 of these types of requests).
Proactively seek out opportunities to collaborate with clients on diversity and inclusion projects and manage the same.
Monitor external best practices relative to diversity and inclusion and ensure that our firm’s initiatives are consistent with or exceed the efforts of peer firms.
Work closely with the firm’s Attorney Development and Hiring Committees to promote the Diversity & Inclusion Committee’s goals and objectives with respect to attracting, promoting, and retaining diverse talent.
Advance the work of the firm’s Women’s Initiative Committee (with the specific items below, in addition to areas of support noted above)
Work closely with the Executive Committee and Women’s Initiative Committee chairs and members in developing and monitoring identified strategic initiatives.
In consultation with Committee chairs, establish meeting agendas, and lead Committee meetings.
Work closely with the firm’s Attorney Development and Hiring Committees to promote the Committee’s goals and objectives with respect to attracting, promoting, and retaining talent.
Monitor external best practices and recommend appropriate new initiatives or modifications of existing ones.
Track success in firm efforts and report progress to internal and external stakeholders.
Support the committee’s hiring, retention, and business development efforts.
Monitor developments in Diversity & Inclusion and Community Outreach programming through attendance at selected conferences and involvement in local chapters and report accordingly.
Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree coupled with at least five or more years of experience related to workplace diversity, inclusion and culture. Experience measuring and improving effective diversity and inclusion programs is preferred. A JD or Master’s degree is a plus. Experience working in a large law firm with multiple offices is strongly preferred. Strong organizational and presentation skills, work ethic, initiative, and sense of urgency are also very important. The Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Outreach may office in Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orange County, Phoenix or Salt Lake City. A flexible work schedule may be available for the ideal candidate. Occasional travel to other offices required.
