About the Department:
The Community Business Partnership (CBP) is a 501 C3 non-profit organization providing opportunities for small businesses in Fairfax County. CBP programs include the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Business Finance Center, the Women's Business Center of Northern Virginia (WBC), the Veteran's Business Outreach Center (VBOC) and the Business Incubation Center.
The WBC is an initiative of United States Small Business Administration and offers training, counseling, and support services for established and aspiring women entrepreneurs. The WBC staff is responsible for developing and managing business, community and economic development assistance services targeting women business owners in Fairfax County and Northern Virginia with special emphasis on low-income and socially disadvantaged women.
The position of Program Support Specialist of the Women's Business Center requires an understanding of issues affecting women business owners. The Specialist must be able to provide sound and reliable business advice to developing companies, and also practice discretion at all times.
Provide administrative support for counselors, trainers, and WBC operations;
Assist with appointment-setting process;
Coordinate counseling sessions with volunteer counselors at the CBP such as attorneys and CPAs on behalf of the client;
Support addition of counseling notes and other client data for each session/client in the database;
Manage calendar for counseling services;
Assist with managing training calendar and presenters;
Provide direct one-on-one and group-style business counseling to clients regarding business start-up and management, especially when Spanish is required;
Support development of Spanish language courses;
Provide English to Spanish translation services for classes;
Translate marketing materials;
Translate live presentations in real time;
Translate training materials and slide presentations;
Support other training duties as needed;
Support efforts to develop relationships with potential clients, volunteers, partners and funders;
Create marketing materials (flyers and web content) for services as required;
Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Associate's Degree in Business – related field or comparable experience;
Experience as a small business owner, manager or advisor;
Experience managing database systems;
Understanding of women's issues and experience with women's business ownership;
Business consulting/coaching experience;
Experience as staff lead on projects and/or volunteer management;
Ability to work some nights and weekends;
Fluency in Spanish.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business – related field or (2+ years) comparable experience;
Experience in serving community-based programs;
Ability to effectively use social media and online business tools;
Understanding of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and resources available to assist small business owners.
Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.
