Greenpeace is seeking a dynamic leader to be its next General Counsel and to join its Strategic Leadership Team. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Counsel is charged with providing independent, strategic legal guidance. The General Counsel is expected to be an expert in nonprofit law and partner with leadership to develop a strong legal framework in support of organizational effectiveness, innovation, compliance and risk mitigation. This position will direct outside counsel in litigation and advise on a wide range of matters with emphasis on nonprofit corporate, tax, employment, contract, campaign finance, intellectual property and environmental matters. The General Counsel is also responsible for providing leadership and guidance on governance issues to the Board of Directors. The successful candidate will have a minimum of ten years of legal experience with five years in an attorney management role, including a track record of translating strategic thinking and legal analysis into action plans, outputs and results. In-depth knowledge of the U.S. political landscape, culture, social movements and socio-economic environment is preferred.
