Assistant City Attorney. The City of Bozeman, Montana is in need of an experienced attorney to accept a challenging position addressing a wide diversity of legal and organizational matters. You will work for an innovative, self-governing charter-based commission-manager government that focuses on facilitating prosperity for its citizens, institutions, and businesses. The City has 350 full time employees and operates on an annual budget of approximately $100M. Bozeman is a dynamic growing community that enjoys a rapidly expanding business climate, low unemployment, and is the home to Montana State University. The region has the best combination of recreational, cultural, and natural amenities in the nation. The Bozeman City Attorney’s Office currently has nine full time attorneys, with four focusing primarily on criminal matters, and five, including the City Attorney, focusing on civil matters. The successful candidate must demonstrate integrity, a lively work ethic, an appreciation for collaboration, leadership qualities, an understanding of the importance of integrated public service, and an affinity for change and reform. Responsiveness, approachability, and accountability are required attributes. Primary duties include assisting the City in external matters such as community and economic development (e.g. land use, affordable housing, resource planning, etc.) and internal functions such as risk management (contracting, insurance, and human resources). Litigation will be required and some involvement in criminal prosecution. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to handle an unlimited diversity of assignments. This is a Full Time position w/excellent health and retirement benefits. $86,864.00 to $95,455.00 per year as earned depending on experience and qualifications.
