Due to COVID-19, the job can be done remotely for the present time subject to the manager’s direction and timeframe. Longer-term, the position will be located physically in Moline, IL. As an Attorney for John Deere located in Moline, IL, you will be a member of the Labor & Employment Law Team within the company's Global Law Services Group. In this role, with supervisory involvement, you will be responsible for supporting corporate and unit Labor Relations and/or Human Relations with respect to threatened legal claims, as well as charges pending before government agencies in employment discrimination and other employment-related matters. You will provide research and legal counsel, recommendations, and alternatives to clients regarding complex U.S. employment and labor law issues, including hiring and termination, disability accommodations, leaves of absence, discrimination, harassment and retaliation, wage and hour, and other employment laws. You will draft legal memoranda, litigation-related documents, and other legal correspondence and assist senior attorneys in the analysis of issues to identify and resolve legal problems. In addition, you will: - Manage, partner, and liaise with outside counsel in defending the company in employment-related litigation involving production employees, including providing support with e-discovery processes and procedures. These cases may include litigation with potentially high levels of monetary and reputational risk to the company.
- Support corporate compliance initiatives and provide legal counsel and direction to investigators conducting compliance investigations.
- With supervisory involvement, support clients with making decisions with far-reaching effects, including decisions with respect to litigation, decisions with significant effects on employees and retirees, and decisions that might have public relations ramifications.
- Be required to handle highly confidential information with a high level of internal visibility.
- Work collaboratively with all members of the Labor & Employment Law Team and others on matters of common concern.
- Provide training to clients on compliance with company policies and processes, US laws and regulations, and state and/or local laws and regulations.
- Stay current on emerging trends in the law through continuing legal education, reading, professional conferences, and participating in professional associations.
- Support LR/HR on similar legal matters, as needed.
