JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the supervision of the Director/Administrator, the Evidence Technician is responsible for maintaining high-level, confidential, and sensitive materials/information regarding the care, custody, and control of all property and evidence collected during postmortem examinations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives, preserves, marks, documents, logs, controls, stores, and ensures security and chain of custody of all property or evidence collected during postmortem examination.
Establishes relationships and proactively coordinates with law enforcement agencies, district attorneys, and families for release of evidence or property in a timely fashion.
Develops, performs, and maintains regular audits of evidence inventory, flagging any potential problems and reporting them to the director, as necessary.
Accesses and interprets police and death investigator reports, court orders, and other documents to respond appropriately to requests for information or materials.
Recommends and implements new procedures for collecting, handling, storing, and releasing evidence in accordance with applicable accreditation standards.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
