Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time Director of Finance beginning in July of 2021. As a member of the Senior Administrative team, the Director of Finance will oversee the Academy’s $6 million operating budget as outlined in the school’s strategic and strategic financial plans. The Director will work closely with the Head of School, the Board of Trustees, and the Senior Administrative Team to provide leadership of the business operations of the school in addition to managing human resources and risk management functions. Responsibilities:
Conduct all aspects of the day-to-day business operations including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, financial accounting, contract management, and purchasing functions in coordination with designated school purchasing agents.
Direct, develop, and manage the annual operating budget. Plan and prepare forecasts of the financial state of the school.
Report to the Head of School and the Board of Trustees the present operations, projections, and annual audits of the school.
Maintain compliance with governmental regulations and changing regulatory environment by staying current on law and regulations that affect compliance. File all required state and national regulatory reports.
Establish policies, procedures, standards, and strategies for areas of responsibility. Provide appropriate internal controls to protect the school’s assets.
In partnership with the Head of School, Trustees, and other staff members evaluate, pursue, and manage non-tuition revenue generating opportunities.
Oversee the risk management function and purchase of property, casualty, liability, and worker’s compensation insurance.
Manage human resources, including employee relations, benefits and compensation, and safety for employees. Coordinate hiring and onboarding process of all employees with the Head of School.
Select or approve and directly oversee relationships with business service providers (banks, auditors, attorneys, contractors, etc.). Secure high-quality products and services for the school’s business functions, including measurement of cost effectiveness.
Assist in the oversight of IT systems, facility maintenance, and the creation and implementation of safety and risk management protocols.
Work in concert with the senior administrative team on operations and strategic issues as they arise.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Administration, Finance, or related field or equivalent work experience.
3 plus years experience in finance/operations role involving strategic and day to day financial management. Experience in an educational or other non-profit setting is preferred
Proficiency with organizational budgeting and financial management. Experience with and understanding of general accounting, payroll management, human resources, and general business systems and functions. Demonstrated success in developing and monitoring financial systems.
Knowledge of and experience with local, state, and federal regulations in education or other business.
Adept at using various technology platforms (MS Office Suite, Google Suites, and QuickBooks).
Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to work and collaborate with a wide range of individuals.
