The Fifth Judicial District is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Law Clerk position. This is intended to be a clerkship opportunity beginning in August, 2021, or earlier if available, and ending July, 2022. Depending on funding, availability, and performance, this clerkship may be extended up to an additional year. Location: Polk County Courthouse, Des Moines, IA.
Employees in this position perform research and administrative functions for multiple judges. Knowledge of substantive and procedural law and statutes applicable to jurisdiction of the district court. Ability to interact with the public, judges, attorneys, and government officials in a variety of situations and circumstances. Ability to formulate and express ideas on complex technical and legal subjects clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Graduation from an accredited law school is required. High standard of academic excellence and considerable experience in legal research and writing are desirable.
Final candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
