The firm is seeking a Practice Manager to support a very busy partner in our Patent Practice Group. This position offers a wide range of responsibilities and challenges that will utilize your strong administrative, organizational, leadership and legal practice skills and knowledge. You will assist the partner in managing day-to-day operations and work closely together to help manage a vibrant practice.
The Practice Manager will work within a functional practice across a host of activities. You will work closely with the partner and their team to ensure that the practice runs smoothly and efficiently. This may include coordinating practice meetings, researching potential partnerships for the practice, or creating reports on practice priorities to share with firm leadership.
This position requires that you are highly organized, can juggle many tasks at once, are not easily overwhelmed, and are comfortable interfacing with all levels of internal management and staff as well as outside clients, vendors and candidates in a fast-paced environment.
The Practice Manager works across a range of detailed, urgent projects, maintains and protects highly confidential information, is the first point of contact in person and on calls for the partner from internal departments and external clients, and works independently with minimal supervision or direction.
Manage non-docketed patent deadlines (usually new filings), investor-side diligence, company-side diligence (including IPOs), FTO analyses, negotiations, company creation, and special projects. Manage project workflows within budget guidelines and ensure the partner’s team has adequate resources. Ensure the partner is fully prepared for client meetings covering these items.
Oversee new business workflow. Prepare proposals and follow through to final stages. Leverage other business development opportunities on behalf of the partner.
Coordinate training for all attorneys and agents, firm committees, and work with practice leaders on new projects.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management, chief of staff or senior executive assistant capacity, including supporting senior level executives ideally within a consulting, private equity, investment banking, law firm or professional services organization.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a position within a fast-paced professional environment.
Project management experience required.
Strong attention to detail, follow-up and excellent organizational skills.
Ability to treat sensitive/confidential information with appropriate discretion.
Strong sense of urgency, adaptability, flexibility and resourcefulness.
The ability to function professionally under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
Proven competencies in software applications and programs, particularly Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook. Excellent word processing and file management skills.
Must possess personal tact, discretion and good judgment. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Acts with integrity in all situations.
Law firm experience preferred; patent experience not required.
Bachelor’s degree required.
