This is an ideal role for someone who would like to utilize traditional research skills and expand into knowledge management. Responsibilities include providing research services to internal attorneys and staff while also assisting the Chief Knowledge Officer with the evaluation, implementation and adoption of knowledge management systems. Participate in Knowledge Management and Research Services team initiatives focused on client service, strategic planning, training, and digital resource initiatives.
Provide high-level legal, regulatory, legislative research and reference services to attorneys and administrative staff.
Perform searches on several standard databases (including Lexis, Cheetah, Bloomberg, internal resources, etc.).
Contribute on occasion, to the department’s research training efforts and internal communications such as awareness newsletters.
Contribute to the evaluation, implementation and on-going adoption of knowledge management systems.
Understand the business needs of lawyers and be able to communicate those to third party vendors. Adept at presenting and translating the capabilities of marketplace solutions to lawyers.
Stay apprised of developments in the relevant legal technology space.
Location: Flexible and in any state where the firm has an office (AZ, CA, FL, IL, IN, LA, MA, MN, MS, NY, TX, WI).
Bachelor’s Degree in business, legal studies or a related field. JD or MLS would be a plus.
Must have a minimum of five years’ experience in a law firm, corporate legal department or professional services environment with knowledge and understanding of practice related processes.
Demonstrated understanding of law firm structure and business practices, as well as practice-specific terminology.
Experience working with legal technology highly desired.
Knowledge and experience of using various research related databases, with an aptitude to continuously learn more.
Strong research, writing and editing skills.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and other common computer applications. Advanced knowledge of Excel and/or SQL is highly desired.
Possess the initiative to take independent ownership of projects and complete them in timely and cost efficient ways; the ability to manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines and priorities under minimal supervision. Be equally comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues.
Polished communication, presentation and interpersonal skills for working with attorneys and staff.
