EEO/AA- M/F/Disability/Protected Veteran Status/Genetic Data Summary Assistant General Counsel I P.2 Position Summary: Provides legal and policy advice to NRECA voting members; provides legal advice to NRECA and NRECA owned and affiliated entities; monitors, participates in, and educates NRECA and NRECA voting members regarding legal proceedings impacting, or potentially impacting, NRECA voting members; Works independently with appropriate guidance; acts as a resource for NRECA employees and members. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - With appropriate guidance, researches, analyzes, and advises NRECA and NRECA voting members regarding complex legal and policy issues impacting, or potentially impacting, NRECA voting member operations, including state electric cooperative act, corporate governance, intellectual property, tort, easement, electronic commerce, privacy, and other legal issues.
- Functions as a subject matter expert on one or more complex legal issues impacting NRECA and NRECA voting members, and continues to maintain and expand that expertise; as new complex legal issues arise for which there is no internal expertise, develops subject matter expertise with appropriate guidance regarding the issues and acts as a resource for NRECA employees and members.
- With appropriate guidance, monitors, participates in, and educates NRECA and NRECA voting members regarding legal proceedings impacting, or potentially impacting, NRECA voting member operations, primarily through NRECA's Legal Reporting Service, Legal Seminars, and conferences, and the Electric Cooperative Bar Association Discussion List.
- With appropriate guidance, researches, analyzes, and advises NRECA and NRECA owned and affiliated entities regarding legal issues impacting, or potentially impacting, their operations, including contracts, intellectual property, corporate governance, tort, litigation, federal election and lobbying law, and other legal issues.
- Supports other Office of General Counsel attorneys in providing legal advice and services to NRECA, NRECA voting members, and NRECA owned and affiliated entities.
- With appropriate guidance and oversight, engages and manages outside legal counsel where specific legal expertise is needed to advise on legal and policy issues impacting, or potentially impacting, NRECA or NRECA voting members, and independently act as a resource for NRECA employees and members regarding the issues.
- Supports member resolutions process, production of monthly NRECA Legal Reporting Service and NRECA Personnel Practice Pointers, maintenance of record repositories.
- Responsible for the proper security and disposal of any confidential information that they may possess in the course of performing this position's job duties, in accordance with NRECA's Personnel & Administrative Policy and HIPAA Privacy and Security Policies & Procedures Manuals.
Direct Reports to this Position: N/A Requirements and Qualifications Experience and Certifications Required: Up to 3 years of experience with electric cooperative or similar legal issues. Must possess, or pass the next available bar examination to obtain, a license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or in another state or the District of Columbia. If licensed to practice law in another state or the District of Columbia, will be required to obtain a Virginia corporate counsel certificate to maintain employment. Essential Physical Requirements: - The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
