Tufts University Advancement is seeking an Associate Director to join the Tufts Gift Planning team. This position will primarily assist individuals in maximizing their support of Tufts and reach their philanthropic goals through financial, estate, and tax planning. The Associate Director of Gift Planning works with donors and their advisers, including attorneys and financial planners, to include Tufts in their estate plans and establish gifts that provide income in return. Examples of such gift vehicles include charitable remainder unitrusts, charitable lead trusts, charitable gift annuities, bequests, and gifts of retirement plans and life insurance.
This position also provides knowledge and expertise to the division and collaborates with development officers to solicit and accept gifts of complex assets, including real estate and private business interests. The Associate Director of Gift Planning will primarily work with individuals interested in supporting Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and the School of Engineering at Tufts University.
Minimum Required Experience
5-7 years of gift planning experience, or combined gift planning/development experience within complex, non-profit organizations, or relevant gift planning experience in an estate and/or financial planning capacity.
Demonstrated track record and experience in managing a significant portfolio of 75-100 prospects as well as in soliciting and accepting planned gifts and gifts of complex assets
Technical expertise in estate planning, tax law and/or real estate related to gift planning
Outstanding verbal and written communications skills; goal-oriented, and adept at prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
Possess a collaborative style that fosters effective partnerships with colleagues throughout Tufts. Able to creatively engage and motivate colleagues, volunteers, donors and prospects in fundraising, while inspiring confidence with internal and external constituencies.
This position requires frequent travel on a local and national level to meet with Tufts alumni, parents and friends once normal business operations resume
