Venable LLP is excited to be recruiting for a firmwide Director of Lateral Partner Recruiting. In this leadership position, the Director will implement creative strategies for sourcing and recruiting partner level candidates, oversee sourcing efforts to increase the pipeline of prospective partner candidates and direct the day-to-day process for active partner recruiting. The Director of Lateral Partner Recruiting will be based in our Washington, DC headquarters and will work closely with the Growth & Expansion Committee, chairs of the various divisions and offices, heads of practice groups and key contributors to firm expansion efforts. Responsibilities for this role include: •Developing relationships with key contributors to firm expansion efforts and thoroughly understanding the firm’s practice areas, areas of strength and selling points for potential laterals •Directing and overseeing all aspects of active partner candidate process while delivering a superior candidate experience •Coordinating veranda sit, including drafting and sending notice to partners, working with the veranda sit host and organizing and running partner vote meeting •Leading Growth & Expansion meetings; providing updates on active candidates and attending division, practice group and office expansion meetings •Directly supervising and managing day-to-day partner sourcing and recruiting efforts and staff •Working with Senior Manager of Lateral Attorney Sourcing and Integration to establish and cultivate relationships with preferred search firms and serve as primary contact Qualifications for this role include: •Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience •A minimum of 10 years of progressive attorney recruiting experience in an AmLaw 200 law firm, including experience leading and managing direct reports •Understanding of general legal recruiting processes and knowledge of mid-to-large sized law firms and the legal industry as a whole •A commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team and ability to lead and motivate others, being innovative and strategic, and providing a high level of professionalism and client service •Superior communication skills, with particular attention to detail, client service and responsiveness; ability to effectively and diplomatically communicate orally and in writing to a diverse set of recipients •Strong organizational, time and project management skills; ability to manage competing priorities effectively and coordinate communications and feedback among hiring teams, search firms and candidates •Working knowledge of applicant tracking systems and proficiency in MS Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite applications Venable holds certain guiding principles central to its hiring and employee development processes.
