Salary is open up to $160,000 annually and will be dependent on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Prescott City Government:
The City of Prescott operates under the council-manager form of government and is based on a voter approved charter with a Mayor and six member City Council elected at Large. The Mayor serves a two-year term and council members serve staggered 4 year terms. The City Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney and City Clerk.
Prescott Police Department:
The Prescott Police Department is comprised of 75 sworn police officers and 47 civilian support personnel, who provide 24 hour emergency and non-emergency services to the citizens and community of Prescott. The command staff includes a Deputy Chief, three (3) Lieutenants and a Police Administrator that provides oversight to the Regional Communications Center. The Department has an approved FY2021 budget of approximately $16,620,080.
The Police Chief reports to the City Manager. The City Manager is dedicated to establishing and maintaining a strong customer service environment where employees respect and support each other. A strong emphasis is placed on our City of Prescott Core Beliefs.
The Police Chief actively provides leadership, direction and administrative oversight to the Police Department and employees responsible for police protection and law enforcement services. This position involves significant community engagement and public involvement with many elected officials, law enforcement agencies and institutions, residents, neighbor groups, civic club functions, public forums, and other communities. As a member of the City's executive team, the Police Chief collaborates with the City Manager's office, City Council and other City departments on strategy and policy to ensure the City's strategic objectives are incorporated into operational activities and services.
The Ideal Candidate:
The City is seeking a candidate that is committed to community-based policing and a desire to implement new ideas and efforts. This challenge requires a strong and high energy leader with excellent policing, organization and administration skills. The ideal Police Chief will be firm, and hold employees to the highest levels of service and integrity. He/she must have the ability and motivation to continue moving the Prescott Police Department forward in performance. The ideal candidate will be skilled in creating a positive atmosphere for employees in the organization and within the Police Department.
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Police Science, Administration of Justice, Organizational Management, Public Administration or closely related area and ten (10) years full time managerial and supervisory level sworn law enforcement work (7 years of which were in a command level position). Candidate of choice must possess certification as a Law Enforcement Officer or obtain within 90 days of hire (see AzPOST.state.az.us) and possess a valid Arizona driver's license. A Master's Degree and graduation from the FBI Academy is strongly preferred.
