The Senior Director of Knowledge and Innovation will serve as the senior executive leader for the firm’s overall Knowledge Management (KM), Library Services (LS), Competitive Intelligence (CI) and Legal Technology and Innovation (LTI) function. The Senior Director of Knowledge and Innovation will work closely with the Chief Information Officer as well as the Managing Partner, Chief Administrative Partner, Practice Group Chairs, and other C-Level and Executive Leadership to develop innovative strategies, drive initiatives, and promote and monitor the use and effectiveness of the firm’s library, knowledge management and legal technology systems and services.
The Senior Director of Legal Technology and Innovation will lead the effort to define the firm’s overall strategy for the Knowledge Management, Innovation, Library Services and Competitive Intelligence functions in the firm and will work with Practice and Administrative groups as well as Clients to establish requirements and set objectives to facilitate legal research, competitive intelligence and innovative solutions and knowledge creation, capture, and sharing in line with the firm’s business strategy, culture and values. The Senior Director of Knowledge and Innovation will assist and direct other primary initiatives as required to further the firm’s Legal Research, Competitive Intelligence, Innovation and Knowledge Strategy.
The Senior Director of Knowledge and Innovation will direct the firm’s Knowledge and Innovation attorneys and staff, and will report to the Chief Information Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO
Provide strategic direction for the firm’s Library, Competitive Intelligence, LTI and KM functions, ensuring alignment with and support of departments, practice groups, and firm wide objectives, in collaboration with the C-Level, Practice Group and other Executive Level Leadership.
Oversee the day to day development, growth, and use of the firm’s libraries, CI, LTI and KM systems, initiatives, and projects
Work with Practice Group Leaders and Technology Liaisons on a regular basis to ensure services and initiatives are aligned with practice group and client needs
Work closely with the firm’s Executive Leadership to evaluate and implement research services and programs and technology tools to further legal research, competitive intelligence and legal technology and knowledge initiatives
Lead, facilitate and collaborate on initiatives in areas through-out the firm to innovate and improve knowledge sharing and research and intelligence processes
Prepare budget proposals and makes recommendations on support levels in Library/CI and LTI/KM departments
Manage, mentor, recruit and develop Library/CI and LTI/KM lawyers and staff
Cultivate the highest standard of quality, consistency, and efficiency in performance from all team members and foster a culture that is team-oriented and committed to client service
Develop tools for measuring the success of Library, CI, LTI and KM initiatives; manage the preparation of reports showing attorney/staff time spent on Library, CI, LTI and KM projects and attorney/staff use of Library, CI, LTI and KM resources
Partner with the firm’s Chief Information Officer to keep abreast of existing and evolving technology systems and services as they relate to the Library, CI, LTI and KM departments
Partner with the firm’s Chief Financial Officer to ensure that Library, CI, LTI and KM systems and initiatives support the firm’s financial objectives and strategy
Partner with the firm’s Chief Marketing Officer to ensure that Library, CI, LTI and KM systems and initiatives support the firm’s objectives and strategy
Provide expert insight and vision to the Information Systems team in assessing, selecting and rolling out software and technology tools to support the firm’s Library, CI, LTI and KM initiatives and to best facilitate the efficient practice of law
Collaborate with the professional development and attorney training team to ensure that training programs and materials incorporate work product developed through Library, CI, LTI and KM projects
Work with the firm’s Risk Officer to ensure that Library, CI, LTI and KM resources and initiatives meet the firm’s standards for Information Governance and Data Security and Privacy
Keep abreast of market trends, innovations, and changes in Library, CI, Innovation and KM and communicate regularly with firm leadership on relevant trends/initiatives in the legal marketplace and
Participate in relevant forums, industry events, and other networking opportunities; share information with other firm wide leadership and make recommendations for action when appropriate.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 10 to 15 years of broad-based, highly sophisticated knowledge management, legal research, competitive intelligence, and technology leadership experience, preferably in a major law firm or other professional services firm environment
Proven success recruiting, managing, and developing staff
An undergraduate degree in information sciences or related field is required. A JD and MLS or other advanced degrees are preferred.
Significant oversight experience in legal library and competitive intelligence operations within a law firm preferred
Significant experience planning, developing, and implementing strategies, programs, and practices in complex, multisite organizations in areas of legal research, competitive intelligence and legal innovation and knowledge management
A strong background in technology and the application of technology in support of knowledge and content management programs
