Facilitates MSU's technology commercialization program by processing new technology disclosures, preparing preliminary assessments of new inventions or discoveries, preparing preliminary marketing materials for new technologies, interfacing with outside counsel for MSU, and performing due diligence functions with technology licensees. Performs and/or oversees a variety of associated administrative, fiscal, staff support, and planning activities, some of which require advanced or specialized knowledge and skills, such as budget administration and control, equipment, facilities, and inventory management, specialized recordkeeping, and database management, and/or specified information-gathering projects and tasks.
* Initiates and oversees the signature process of invention disclosures, coordinate with inventors, departments, colleges, and vice presidents to ensure disclosures comply with MSU intellectual property policy (OP 76.01). * Prepares preliminary assessments of new technologies to address commercial market, unmet need, and prior art/patentability. * Prepares preliminary marketing materials for new technologies. * Manages office social media accounts and makes posts featuring new inventions, inventors, and office events * Initiates and oversees the signature process of fully negotiated agreements. * Coordinates with other University departments to process financial and personnel transactions related to technology transfer. Communicates with the Controller's office, Procurement and Contracts office on activities related to accounts receivable and accounts payable for patent costs payments and revenue disbursement. Prepare interdepartmental transfers and budget transfers between budgetary units as required. * Works with multiple outside law firms and MSU general counsel to process patent attorney invoices and monitor payment of the legal fees from multiple MSU stakeholders. * Work with external MSU stakeholders to maintain good business relationships. Assist in the monitoring of executed license agreements, including drafting due diligence letters to track license terms and invoicing the licensees for various fees. This involves reviewing the licenses and interpreting terms of the agreements. * Establish, maintain, process, and/or update files, records, and/or other documents in the Minuet IP management database to assist in the management, protection and licensing of MSU's intellectual property (patents, trademarks and copyrights, etc.) and monitoring various agreements (licenses, non-disclosure , inter-institutional, etc.). * Participates in the development and implementation of department/unit programs and projects consistent with organizational objectives, contractual arrangements, and/or funding availability. * Oversees and/or performs a range of diverse administrative activities for an organizational unit; serves as a central point of liaison with other departments and external constituencies in the resolution of a variety of day-to-day matters concerning the unit. * Utilizes knowledge and understanding of underlying operational issues to create, compose, and edit technical and/or administrative correspondence and documentation. * Assists in administrative problem solving, program/project planning, development, and execution of stated goals and objectives. * Researches information, compiles statistics, and gathers and computes various data; prepares special and/or one-time reports, summaries, or replies to inquiries, selecting relevant data from a variety of sources. * Monitors, reconciles, and assists with fiscal administration for the unit, including but not limited to budgets, funding, grants, contracts, payroll, employment, travel, and/or purchasing; may assist with fiscal planning, * Provides and/or oversees support activities for the unit such as answering telephones, assisting and resolving problems and inquiries of visitors, review and control of incoming and outgoing correspondence, and follow-up on operational commitments. * Schedules appointments and maintains calendars; schedules, coordinates and facilitates meetings, facilities usage, events, and/or travel arrangements, as required. * Develops and implements systems to maintain records on employees, equipment and compliance activities. * Leads and guides work of intermittent staff and student employees, supervises student employees as appropriate; may participate in hiring decisions. * Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Substitutions: When a candidate has the required experience but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional experience toward the education requirement at a rate of one (1) year of relevant experience per year of required education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software packages. * Must be able to interact with a diverse clientele, maintain confidentiality, and work in a team environment. * Must possess strong oral and written communication skills with excellent attention to details. * Organization skills, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines are critical

*Routine deadlines: usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor. *Job frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting to 50 pounds. *Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
