This position is responsible for managing and resolving disputes as a member of Health Care Service Corporation’s (HCSC) enterprise litigation team. Matters span the five Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans that HCSC operates in Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Montana. The role is split between strategic oversight of litigation filed against the company and any related risk mitigation legal adivce to management, on one hand, and leading strategic implementation and management of HCSC’s affirmative litigation and recovery efforts, on the other.
Job Requirements: * Law degree from accredited law school * At least 8 years of experience as a litigation attorney with significant experience handling life, health and disability matters or other complex commercial litigation * Admittance to the Texas or Illinois bar (or another state where HCSC does business or ability to be admitted within 6 months) * Experience in managing client relations or communicating on complex matters across a variety of business divisions in connection with litigation matters * Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop a sound approach for handling a variety of litigation matters and objectives while minimizing cost and burden on the company * Commitment to delivering quality and timely legal services, plus a committed solutions-oriented approach * Hands-on, hard-working, “roll up your sleeves” style, with both business partners and Legal teammates * Demonstrated business and strategic acumen and ongoing commitment to business partnering * Demonstrated ability to function as a self-starter and value-add contributor * Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple projects and competing priorities
Preferred Requirements: * Experience litigating health plan benefits and payor-provider disputes for insurers, health plans or their third-party administrators under state and federal laws, including ERISA * Experience defending and prosecuting claims arising from special investigations into member or provider fraud, waste or abuse * Experience handling complex commercial litigation at a large law firm or specialized law firm focused on life, health and disability litigation * First or second chair experience in the state and federal courts of one or more states where HCSC does business
