What you’ll be doing...
Verizon is looking for an energetic and talented professional Counsel with comparable skills to join the International Product Legal & Regulatory organization. Candidates’ primary tasks will include the following subject areas: bringing telecommunication and IT products and services to market (product development), and advising Sales and other business organizations in selling of such products and services to enterprise customers while ensuring regulatory and local law compliance internationally including the Americas (Latin America, Canada and US Territories) and/or possibly other jurisdictions. Experience in international and local regulatory laws, regulations, and policy issues in the Americas, and the capability to understand how those issues impact Verizon, as well as an appreciation for how these compare from country to country is important. Candidates should have solid experience with classic telecoms networks and products and their fast paced changes due to new technologies, and must be capable of applying traditional telecoms laws and regulations to these new technologies. The ideal candidate will have mastered a wide variety of regulatory and product issues and be interested in working on matters faced in challenging countries.
Staying abreast of regulations, geopolitical developments and proposed legislative changes applicable to countries in the Americas.
Supporting product development and the roll-out of international products as well as their international sale by advising on regulatory issues for the relevant countries.
Applying for telecom licenses as necessitated by the business needs.
Ensuring compliance with such licenses as products, services and/or regulations change.
Working with product managers, engineers, in-house attorneys and external outside local law firm counsels in the Americas.
This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
Bar membership and needed licenses.
Experience with and a thorough understanding of the telecommunications industry and telecommunications laws and regulations in the Americas.
International regulatory experience.
Willingness to travel.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Product development experience.
Knowledge of hardware and virtual IP-based telecommunications and network technologies (incl. encryption technologies), experience in new technologies (e.g. internet of things, self-driving cars, artificial intelligence, 5G).
Experience working with data base systems.
Ability to consider the bigger picture and to think creatively outside the box.
Ability to work under pressure and against aggressive deadlines.
Ability to assess and manage risk within a sound commercial approach.
Project management skills.
Able to quickly conduct effective issue-spotting of legal issues that arise in the course of the variety of day to day matters, paired with sound legal and business judgment.
Attention to detail.
Able to understand telecoms jargon and to communicate complex matters internally and externally in simple language.
Great team player in a small, highly collaborative legal team.
Fluency in one or more foreign languages (Spanish).
Proficiency with Google Suite.
