Provide advice and counsel on intellectual property and technology transfer transactions Columbia Technology Ventures (CTV) and across the University;
Review, draft, and manage intellectual property licenses covering patents, software, copyrights, and data;
Advise general counsel, CTV, and other University leadership on licensing and technology transfer issues;
Negotiate the legal aspects of term sheets, licenses and other agreements; advise clients on negotiation strategy;
Review, draft, and manage a wide range of other agreements including sponsored research agreements, collaboration agreements, agreements with federal and NY state agencies for projects supporting scientific innovation, inter-institutional agreements with universities and research institutions, material transfer agreements, and confidentiality agreements;
Provide legal analyses and risk assessments on proposed transactions, participate in business decision-making processes; and
Provide guidance on deal structure with practical and issue focused legal advice and recommendations in view of business needs and Columbia???s policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience A Juris Doctor degree from a nationally recognized law school with excellent academic credentials in law school and in undergraduate studies; a minimum of 4 to 7 years of practice experience as a transactional attorney in a law firm, corporate, or university legal department; must be admitted to the New York State Bar or admitted within one year of hire; a STEM background preferred, and; Higher Education and/or other in-house experience a plus.

Ability to supervise outside counsel in a cost-effective manner.
