Overview: The Counsel – Intellectual Property will work on a broad portfolio of patent matters, advise as to the patentability and appropriateness of improvements and developments relating to outdoor consumer products, assist in managing the extensive, global patent portfolio associated with Vista Outdoor’s numerous brands, and advise as appropriate when legal measures are necessary to protect the Company’s intellectual property. The attorney will also advise engineers and other professionals and work with colleagues in the Legal Department to assess the strength and patentability of other inventions and improvements throughout the Vista Outdoor IP portfolio. The attorney will have a principal focus on patent law but may be asked to support other practice areas both within and without IP law.

Location: San Diego, CA (preferred location), Petaluma, CA, Santa Cruz, CA or Overland Park, KS. Vista Outdoor will be open to a hybrid-working arrangement with a few days in the office each week. This is not a fully remote role.
Relocation: No relocation assistance will be provided.
Experience: The successful candidate will have 3+ years of legal experience gained in private practice at a large law firm, as in-house counsel, or a combination of both. The right candidate will be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office, and able to assist in the preparation and prosecution of patents in the computer software and sports simulation industry.
