We have an opportunity available for an Intellectual Property Counsel to join our General Counsel’s Office reporting into the Deputy General Counsel, Innovation & Product. The position will be based either in in our Eagan, MN or our Carrollton, TX offices.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Legal Counsel, Innovation & Product, you will be primarily directed toward supporting the Company’s strategic protection of its intellectual property in its product offerings including:
Provide counsel to development teams during product development for new products to achieve business, technology and operational goals
Patent filing strategy formulation, including identifying potentially important patentable inventions.
Coordination of domestic and foreign patent prosecution.
Preparation and prosecution of patent applications, both domestic and foreign.
Advise on legal issues relating to AI/Machine Learning
Provide intellectual property due diligence support with respect to acquisitions, including evaluation of third-party intellectual property
Manage and support intellectual property related litigations and disputes
Trademark filing strategy formulation and counsel
Provide assessment and advice on open-source software issues
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Legal Counsel, Innovation & Product if your background includes:
Admission to practice at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in good standing
Member of a State bar in good standing
B.S. or equivalent in a technical discipline (E.E. or C.S. preferred)
3+ years’ experience in a large firm and/or corporate setting specializing in intellectual property law.
Experience drafting and prosecuting utility and design patent applications.
Experience in preparing and filing trademark applications
Ability to think strategically and creatively to identify and resolve legal issues
Excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills, and an aptitude for problem-solving
Ability to learn new skills and to adapt to changing business compliance needs
Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
Experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on complex technology transactions
Experience with commercial licensing agreements, both inbound and outbound
Ability to collaborate on multiple cross-functional projects
