The Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office is hiring for two Assistant County Attorney positions.

The first position will handle civil matters, including but not limited to small claims, real estate transactions, and tax assessment protests. The position will also support the county attorney in advising county officials, and will be responsible for defending postconviction relief cases and overseeing the magistrate criminal court docket, which includes prosecuting misdemeanor criminal offenses, traffic offenses, as well as mental health and substance abuse committals. Other duties may be assigned as time and workload permits.

The second position will primarily handle juvenile court matters, including CINAs and delinquencies, as well projects related to youth, including but not limited to at-risk youth programs and truancy. The position will also handle a substantial criminal case allocation, including the majority of cases that have corresponding juvenile court proceedings or have child victims.

Candidates must be admitted to practice law in the State of Iowa and must have experience sufficient to permit the candidate to complete his or her work with limited supervision. The attorney may be required to handle emergency matters after regular work hours on a rotating basis with other attorneys.
