Description
The Suffolk University Law School Housing Discrimination Testing Program is seeking excellent attorney candidates for a full-time position as a clinical fellow to advance our mission, in particular, to design and coordinate housing discrimination tests, to give presentations on issues relating to fair housing and perform other program related work. The fellow will work as an integral part of a dynamic center for fair housing whose work includes testing, enforcement, education and outreach, curricular development, academic conferences and empirical study. This is a grant funded position for one year, but may continue beyond that depending on the availability of funding. Experience in fair housing or civil rights law is a plus, but is not required. Knowledge of the neighborhoods and City of Boston and the Boston rental real estate market is preferred, but is not required.
Responsibilities:
Design, implement and coordinate fair housing tests and investigations
Analyze testing results
Prepare detailed, accurate written reports of testing projects
Communicate with stakeholders, providing timely updates on investigations
Assist with recruiting, training, and maintaining a diverse pool of fair housing testers
Develop and present fair housing educational trainings to diverse audiences
Engage in strategic decision making regarding fair housing investigations
Participate with other team members in setting the vision for the program
Qualifications:
J.D. Required
Strong analytical skills
Experience working directly with racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds
Highly organized and able to manage multiple investigations, with varying deadlines
Ability to supervise fair housing testers
Comfortable speaking in public
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities
Ability to meet project deadlines
Detail oriented and able to maintain accurate records
Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and community partners
Self-motivated and able to work without constant supervision
Reporting: The Fellow's work will be supervised by HDTP's Assistant Director, currently Jamie Langowski. The Fellow will report directly to Sarah Boonin, Director of Clinical Programs. The Fellow will also work with the Director of the HDTP, currently Professor William Berman, and the HDTP's Director of Investigations & Outreach.
Hours and Compensation: This position is a full-time, 12-month contract. The position will begin as soon as possible. Continuation of the position will be contingent on future funding, program needs, financial considerations, and the Fellow's performance in carrying out the position's responsibilities, as well as adherence to the relevant terms of employment of the University and Law School.
