Impact & Responsibilities: Manages legal issues for the University related to labor and employment law, export controls, and immigration; provides counsel to the Provost Office on faculty grievances and employee contract issues; provides training for University employees; represents the University on the collective bargaining team with the United Faculty contract; manages legal cases and issues as assigned by University Counsel; provides prompt, accurate, and ongoing legal advice on a broad range of labor and employment matters; participates in University committees and meetings as requested; and completes all other duties assigned.
Requirements: Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited school of law; admission or eligibility for admission within one year of employment to the Iowa Bar plus at least three years of experience in labor law or employment law; and strong critical writing, analysis, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred: Experience serving as an attorney within or supporting an institution of higher education; experience working on labor law issues; strong computer skills to complete research; experience with contracts; experience working with bargaining units, including collective bargaining; experience providing training to employees; experience working with immigration law issues; experience working with trademark issues; and experience with export control issues preferred.
