Mayo Clinic has launched a bold new initiative to expand its reach and help more patients by creatively leveraging data analytics, digital platforms, business partnerships and international relationships. We are seeking an experienced, savvy, solution-oriented privacy attorney who will play a critical role in helping Mayo succeed in this endeavor. This Legal Counsel position will provide legal advice and counsel for a world-class, non-profit, academic medical center and affiliated health care system, joining an existing team specializing in this area. In-depth knowledge of privacy and data protection law, including but not limited to HIPAA, GDPR, LGPD, PIPL and U.S. state laws, is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have substantive privacy experience, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability and confidence to represent Mayo Clinic in sophisticated, data-focused transactions. The candidate should also have the ability to identify, analyze, and strategically advise business stakeholders on regulatory risks.
This Legal Counsel position will work collaboratively with sophisticated Risk, Compliance and Information Security Offices. A strong academic background, as well as excellent communication and writing skills are required. The candidate must have the ability to manage multiple client relationships, with an understanding of, and willingness to meet, clients’ needs and business goals in a dynamic, team-based, multi- state, corporate legal department.
Qualifications JD from an accredited law school and license to practice law. A minimum of five years of experience as an attorney counseling health care clients on data privacy matters as described above is required. Candidates should have strong project management and organizational skills, sound business judgment, and a demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively.
