UW Medical Center – Northwest is a full-service medical center based in North Seattle.  We are a non-profit community hospital offering comprehensive medical, surgical and therapeutic services.  With 281 beds, more than 2,000 employees and a world-class medical staff, we provide innovative, technologically advanced care on a patient-friendly, easy-access campus, just north of Seattle.

UW Medical Center - Northwest  has an outstanding opportunity for a Clinical Court Evaluator for the Behavioral Health Department. The University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) Court Evaluator is responsible for providing forensic services to patients at both the Montlake and Northwest campuses who are going through the involuntary treatment act (ITA) process. Such services shall include, but are not limited to, evaluation of identified patients, preparing the proper declarations and petitions, attending all necessary court hearings related to the patients, entering in relevant necessary notes into the patients’ medical records and processing court orders and other related paperwork. Duties also include educating and guiding staff along ITA laws and regulations, liaising with King County and ITA Court representatives and engaging with UWMC treatment team members for care planning, court preparation and alternative treatment measures.

SCHEDULE
Full time, day shift, 40 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1.  Evaluates patients face-to-face who are scheduled for King County ITA Court, completes documentation requirements and files all legal paperwork accurately and timely.
2.  When video court and/or telehealth is not available or appropriate, travels between UWMC hospital campuses to evaluate patients to progress the case in King County ITA Court.
3.  Educates interdisciplinary team on new processes related to patients on a Single Bed Certificate (SBC) and ITA patients who are currently admitted to the inpatient behavioral health unit.
4.   Collaborates with county and community providers as needed regarding ITA patients and changes to the process.
5.   Acts as a resource for inpatient and emergency department staff for questions regarding the care of an involuntary psychiatric patient.
6.   Represents UWMC at King County ITA Court as indicated, also serving as proxy witness when available, appropriate and approved by King County ITA Court Prosecutor’s Office.
7.   Completes thorough documentation on court processes and determinations to meet legal, regulatory and departmental expectations. In partnership with the ITA Coordinator, ensures that court orders are provided to appropriate unit/staff to support the legal detention of patients.
8.   Communicates timely and appropriately via established platforms to coordinate with hospital staff.
9.   Tracks and manages court dates, outcomes and orders, filing deadlines and other required legal paperwork to ensure UWMC complies with the ITA process.
10.  Adequately prepares to represent UWMC in court via evaluation, chart review and team discussion as necessary.
11.  Communicates legal concerns and upcoming deadlines to the UWMC treatment team to facilitate updates to the patient’s treatment plan when indicated. 12.  Coordinates with King County Prosecuting Attorneys for King County ITA Court to support patient’s treatment plan.
13.  Fosters positive internal and external customer relations.
14.  Attends monthly ITA Court Stakeholder’s and Patient Placement Taskforce meetings as able and requested as a representative of UWMC.

REQUIREMENTS
Education Background
Advanced Degree as required by specialty.

Licensure, Registration, Certification
Licensed as a psychologist, advanced registered nurse practitioner, mental health counselor or independent clinical social worker in the State of Washington.
Maintains a valid Washington Drivers License and a clean driving record.

Work Experience
5 years recent experience working with acutely ill psychiatric patient’s specifically involving evaluation of psychiatric safety, level of function, psychiatric diagnoses and medications.
A minimum of two years recent experience working in a hospital setting.

Special Training/Skills
Ability to foster collaborative relationships with families, patients, physicians, other health care professionals inside and outside University of Washington Medical Center, court officials and county representatives.
Expertise with the Washington Involuntary Treatment Act (RCW 71.05)
Experience providing expert psychiatric, psychological or mental status testimony in civil or criminal court proceedings
Excellence in written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledgeable and competent in the use of general office equipment and computer skills.
Ability to act independently and utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and organize work.
For LICSWs, compliance with the NASW Code of Ethics is required. 
For LMHCs, compliance with the AMHCA Code of Ethics is required.
For Psychologists, compliance with the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct is required.
For ARNPs, compliance with the ANA Code of Ethics is required.
