Departmental Overview
The Center for Security in Politics (CSP) supports research, curriculum, and convenings that bring students, academics, and leading political practitioners together to address critical global risks, to translate research and analysis into actionable solutions for policymakers, thought leaders and elected officials, and to train a diverse generation of security professionals for careers in public service.
The CSP is led by distinguished public servant Janet Napolitano, who served as the president of the University of California from 2013 to 2020, as the US Secretary of Homeland Security from 2009 to 2013, as Governor of Arizona from 2003 to 2009, as Attorney General of Arizona from 1998 to 2003, and as US Attorney for the District of Arizona from 1993 to 1997.

Responsibilities
Produce original research including research design; authoring peer-reviewed publications, compiling literature reviews; and conducting data collection and analysis.
Designs and leads workshops or other convenings on the topic of their research, and participate in the relevant academic and policy conversations.
Work closely with BRSL's Faculty Director and Assistant Director, affiliated Berkeley faculty, and external collaborators to conduct scholarly research and contribute to ongoing policy debates.
Support the work of the Lab by engaging with stakeholders in industry, government, and civil society outside the Center.
Write white papers and/or other public facing outputs.
Propose and implement research projects that align with the Laboratory's programming.
Maintains and develops research gathering, retrieval and reporting systems.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of research function.
Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures.
Working skills in analysis and consultation.
Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
Bachelor's degree in related area and or experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD or equivalent international degree or enrolled in a PhD or equivalent international degree program.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 18-month, full-time (40 hours/week), Contract Appointment, eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility of extension. This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $74,000.00 - $90,000.00.
