Company. Mavel Americas, Inc. is the Boston-based American subsidiary of Mavel, a.s., a Czech-American owned company based outside of Prague, Czech Republic.  Founded in 1990, Mavel has grown into a leading global supplier of turbines and related equipment for small hydroelectric power projects (up to 30 MW per unit).  The company offers a full range of turbines, including Kaplan, Francis and Pelton, providing customers with customized and optimized solutions for all projects. A leader in research and development, Mavel’s experience and success with low head turbines for existing weirs and innovative solutions for equipment refurbishment projects is unparalleled. While focused primarily on conventional hydro projects, other applications include city water systems, irrigation channels, wastewater treatment facilities. Founded in 2009, Mavel Americas, Inc. oversees all of Mavel’s operations in the Americas, including Canada, USA and Latin America. 

Description of Position. Mavel Americas, Inc.  is seeking a candidate for the new position of Inhouse Legal Counsel / Director of Strategic Initiatives (“Strategic Director”).  This is a fulltime position and can be based in the Boston, MA office or other location, as agreed.  The Strategic Director will be part of the senior management team and report to the President of Mavel Americas, Inc.  

Legal. As Inhouse Legal Counsel, the Strategic Director will oversee all contract negotiations, compliance and execution, and other legal matters.  The Strategic Director will work with Mavel’s outside counsel on special projects

Strategic Initiatives. Mavel Americas, Inc.  is considering several strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, investments, expansion and public / private partnerships.  The Strategic Director will be responsible for leading and working with the senior management team to develop strategy for the Americas; to explore and develop opportunities and to implement approved initiatives.

Other. The Strategic Director will be a critical member of the Mavel Americas, Inc,/Mavel team. While work location and hours are flexible, the Strategic Director may be asked to travel and attend industry events throughout the year.

Desired Skills/Qualifications.

• Licensed to practice law or otherwise qualified
• Experience within the hydroelectric power or renewable industry sectors
• Critical analysis and organizational skills
• Strong written and verbal skills
• Ability to multitask and work independently
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) proficiency
