Position Description: Under the direction of the Employee Disability Management Program Manager of Insurance & Risk Management, responsible for providing disability management services to disabled employees; case management and consultation services to campus departments in compliance with UC Policies Collective Bargaining Agreements, ADAAA, FEHA, FMLA, CFRA, PDL, Federal Rehabilitation Act 73, 504, California Workers' Compensation laws and on principles and practices of Disability Management. Performs the analysis on many variables requiring knowledge of a disability and employment related concepts, human resource/personnel-related work, workers' compensation claims management, job placement and/or vocational rehabilitation.
Responsible for consultation and recommendations on appropriate options such as job modification, medical leave of absence, transitional employment, vocational counseling, reasonable accommodation, , medical separation and referral for related services. Handles confidential and sensitive assignments regularly collaborating with many campus departments.
Facilitates the interactive process from the first point of knowledge of an employee with a disability and implements UCLA's Transitional Return to Work (TRTW) program. Promotes alternate employment opportunities for employees and job applicants with disabilities in compliance with state and federal employment laws and UC policy/Collective Bargaining agreements and procedure. Performs job search activities, development of job accommodations, and analysis of essential job functions and physical work demands. Supports other EDM return to work activities and services. Consults and facilitates accommodations for job applicants.
Interacts and coordinates with different campus offices and departments including staff and academic human resources, labor/employee relations, UCLA & OGC legal, compliance and diversity, EH&S, SFCC, and Ombuds and with external offices including UC's third party claims administrator, and outside defense attorneys for both workers' compensation and civil cases. Participates in monthly workers' compensation claims and departmental case reviews. Provides input and information to Claims Examiners on relevant employment issues. Analyzes and makes recommendations in the workers' compensation process to ensure compliance with laws, policies and contracts protecting employees with disabilities. Completes reports and documentation on case-related activities.
