The Firm has an opening for a full-time Accounting Associate in the Firm’s Indianapolis office. The Firm has developed an optional 3-2 hybrid work schedule where employees are expected to work from the Indianapolis office at least three days per week and may opt to work from home up to two days per week. This option may be available after training and an introductory period are complete and at the discretion of the Accounting Managers.
The Opportunity
The candidate will provide assistance in a variety of financial functions that occur within a professional services organization: billing, collections, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and a number of other duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Answer client emails regarding questions related to billing, payments, and accruals.
Communicate with attorneys and legal assistants on a variety of issues related to time entry, client/matter opening, client disbursements and billing.
Perform basic legal accounting functions of editing and finalizing client bills based on attorney and client guidelines, cash receipt entry and proper allocation, maintain client trust account ledgers, maintain client records in Time and Billing and Document Management systems.
Perform and proficient understanding of basic accounting functions such as general ledger entry, chart of account review, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Frequent review of and contact with attorneys and clients on assigned client collections.
Qualifications:
Experience in professional services department.
Two years related accounting/legal experience.
Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
Excellent communication and organization skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Project and team management/leadership skills and experience.
Capability of effective planning and priority setting.
Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
Strong analytical skills.
Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Word and Excel.
