This position provides strategic planning, implementation, consultation, and general oversight and execution of attorney recruiting and development programs.
The scope of recruiting responsibilities include new graduate, lateral, and summer law clerk hiring as well as diversity recruiting initiatives and summer law clerk program management. Attorney professional development and leadership development responsibilities include needs assessments, program recommendations, curriculum development, identification of expert resources, budget management, communication, and executive reporting.
This highly visible position will engage with all organizational levels and numerous external contacts in the execution of day-to-day activities and in meeting long-term goals.
This position can be based in our Pittsburgh office or Philadelphia (West Conshohocken) office.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
BS required; MS or JD strongly preferred. Specialized training and continuing education in all or some of areas of responsibility.
Experience:
Law firm experience required. At least eight years’ experience in a legal recruiting and/or professional development role including at least two years in a management position. Program and people management experience required. Experience in an organizational development, adult education, training, or personnel management role preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
An independent self-starter with demonstrated knowledge and successful track record in the areas of attorney talent acquisition and development. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Proven ability to build an effective network of contacts and project a positive employer image. Able to formulate and execute short- and long-term strategies for recruiting and development programs. Assertive in consultation and leading others to meet established goals. Ability to establish and maintain rapport at all organizational levels and with external contacts. Highly professional yet approachable. Team oriented with an unwavering focus on the big picture and best interests of the firm. Highly collaborative with excellent follow up and follow through. Highly organized, attentive to detail, and able to simultaneously manage multiple priorities. Creative problem solver and overall ability to get a job done. Basic understanding of human resource and personnel management concepts. Discretion in handling difficult or sensitive issues. Strong computer skills.
OTHER
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Indirect management of project teams as well as internal and external resources.
Equipment to be Used:
Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, keyboard, calculator, fax machine, duplicating machine, etc.
Typical Physical Demands:
Sitting for extended periods, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Range of hearing and vision sufficient to operate standard office machines and communicate extensively via telephone.
Typical Mental Demands:
Able to deal with stress in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities. Make decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas and technologies. Communicate and successfully interact with various personalities at all organizational levels.
Working Conditions:
Typical office setting, normally Monday through Friday business hours. Travel required to other offices and as needed for recruiting (on-campus interviews, potential lateral meetings, etc.).
