Department Information
The Office of the Vice President and General Counsel (OVPGC) serves as legal counsel for the University. We advise the Trustees and University Administration on all legal issues and serve as the point of contact on all legal matters involving the University.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Provides legal and administrative support to attorneys in OVPGC with special focus to assist immigration attorney with employment-based immigration applications and matters.
Coordinates and assists with contract review of affiliation agreements for internship or clinical placements of IU students at external facilities.
Serves as a primary backup to the Administrative Assistant.
Assists Director of Budget, HR, and Operations with the university's legal matter management system, and general updates to OVPGC website.
General Responsibilities
Serves as a liaison to gather, redact and produce documents in response to open records requests as required by Indiana's Access to Public Records Act, along with responses to discovery requests or subpoenas involving the university.
Assists with legal documents such as legal agreements and standard contracts; under attorney supervision, drafts, formats, redacts legal documents as required.
Monitors/tracks status of litigation involving the university and coordinate with various campus offices and outside counsel in order to gather and produce documents in response to discovery requests involving the university as a party.
Performs various other administrative support duties as needed in support of the department; may perform various fiscal support duties, such as travel coordination and/or payroll processing.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree (preferably in legal studies or related field)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
2 years of legal assistant/paralegal or related legal administrative experience
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire

Experience with prior immigration related documents is a plus
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
