Job Description Boston University's Office of the General Counsel ('OGC') is responsible for all legal matters affecting the University. Its staff of eleven attorneys provides high quality strategic legal advice and representation to the University's trustees, executive officers, faculty, and academic and administrative units to help them achieve their goals.
The Legal Assistant is critical to OGC's ability to serve its clients. This individual will work with and perform administrative, clerical and occasional paralegal work in support of five attorneys in the office, including the General Counsel. Duties include managing attorney calendars; submitting expense/travel reports; preparing and revising documents, including court filings; organization of attorney files; management of litigation dockets; and the maintenance of electronic and paper files. The Legal Assistant will be involved in specialized projects for the office or the supported attorneys, including preparing reports and meeting materials. The Legal Assistant will participate in and be exposed to the full range of activities associated with the practice of law in an in-house setting, which may prove useful to candidates considering law school. This position is eligible for the generous tuition remission at Boston University.

B.A./B.S. required. Requires at least one year of administrative or equivalent experience. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, the ability to learn new skills, and have excellent judgement. The candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, have exceptional communication skills (both oral and written), and be able to multitask while managing competing deadlines. Time management and organizational skills are a must as well as the ability to take initiative and follow up on open tasks in a timely manner. This individual should be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and have the ability to learn new technologies quickly. Experience with WordPress and Concur a plus. Candidate will be required to submit an application to become a Massachusetts notary within the first month of hire.
