The Executive Director is the chief staff executive officer and is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and day to day management of the South Carolina Bar Foundation (“Foundation”). This role requires a professional that understands the mission of the Foundation as well as the role of a statewide nonprofit leader and funder.
Key Duties
Advise and support the Board of Directors
Collaborate with the president and other officers to assist them in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities
Manage and staff all Board Committees
Oversee the administration of the grant programs
Oversee, administer, an ensure compliance with the state mandated IOLTA program
Maintain and continue to develop philanthropic and fundraising activities including events throughout the state
Maintain and cultivate strong relationships with the South Carolina Bar, the South Carolina Supreme Court, and appropriate legislative and executive branch leaders to further the Foundation’s mission
Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the organization and the profession
Exercise sound financial management and oversight in compliance with best practices and applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations
Oversee sound risk management policies and procedures, including cybersecurity
Assure adequate resources, training, and support to retain and develop staff
Communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders
Maintain and cultivate relationships with bar members throughout the state as well as leaders in the non-profit community.

Experience
Experience as a chief staff executive or in a senior management position with a non-profit, foundation, government agency, or law-related organization is preferred.
The South Carolina Bar Foundation (“Foundation”) is a 501(c)(3) organization, and its mission is to promote justice by funding legal access and education. The Foundation Board and the staff aspire to meet this mission through the management of the state mandated Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (“IOLTA”) program as well as through philanthropy and fundraising. Established in 1971, the Bar Foundation has provided over $50 million in grants to law related non-profit organizations that fall into three main categories- civil legal aid, administration of justice, and law-related education.
A 17-member Board of Directors governs the Foundation. The executive director is accountable to the Board of Directors.
