The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for providing career counseling and professional development coaching to students and alumni, including meeting one-on-one with current students and alumni and creating and providing resources and strategies for individual career development and networking.
This Assistant Director also designs and leads career and professional development programs for students and alumni, builds and maintains relationships with employers, alumni, and external constituents, develops and expands alumni and employer outreach programs, and collaborates with internal constituents to strengthen Career and Professional Development programs.

Responsibilities:
Counsels and advises students and alumni in career exploration and finding a fit with the students' skills, values and personality.
Counsels and advises students and alumni on career exploration, career planning, job search strategies, resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing skills, and networking in a diverse legal market.
Counsels students and alumni on professional development issues including key skills, competencies, and experiences sought by employers
Develops and implements effective career and professional development related programs, tools and written materials.
Develops and expands alumni and employer outreach programs.
Identifies and maintains existing relationships with employers, and alumni.
Creates or identifies opportunities for students to gain legal work experience during law school or after.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree required.
3-5 years of experience in practicing law, as well as professional contact, interaction and knowledge of legal employers, legal job market and unique aspects of practicing law or using a J.D. for alternative employment opportunities.
Student advising experience in higher education context preferred and highly beneficial but not required.
Professional career counseling and/or placement experience with legal professionals preferred, but not required; may consider a combination of education and experience).
An active law license is not required for this position, but if candidate has a law license or has previously been licensed, candidate must be (or must have been when licensed) in good standing with the applicable licensing authority.
Strong connections with practicing attorneys, judges, and the legal community.
Significant familiarity, experience, professional connections, and understanding of traditional and alternative occupations for legal professionals.
Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships both internally and externally.
High level of energy and creativity; strong organizational skills.
Knowledge of, and experience with website management and database programs. (e.g. RaisersEdge, Symplicity, WordPress, etc.)
Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours as needed to meet student and alumni needs
Strong program development, management, and implementation skills.
Knowledge of key areas of career exploration, career development strategies, professional development best practices, and networking strategies.
