Position Summary
This individual will be responsible for transactional and corporate legal work in a variety of critical areas, including real estate, advancement, finance, taxation, employee benefits and vendor agreements. The attorney in this position will have the knowledge and experience to work independently, with appropriate levels of support and supervision as they learn about university practices and initiatives. This role reports to the Vice Chancellor & General Counsel, and will work particularly closely with Assistant Vice Chancellors and Associate General Counsel who practice in similar substantive areas.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Provides contract and other corporate advice and representation to university leaders in the central administrative units and each of the eight schools.
Performs duties that will include client counseling, negotiation and drafting of agreements in a variety of substantive areas, including real estate, advancement, finance and taxation, employee benefits and vendor agreements.
Provides real estate responsibilities that includes management of off campus leases for physician practices, leases with university tenants, and purchase and sale agreements.
Works closely with teams in Financial Services, Advancement, and the School of Medicineâ™s Division of Finance and Administration.  Â
Works collaboratively with other members of the Office of Vice Chancellor & General Counsel as helpful or necessary to ensure the delivery of prompt and informed legal services.
It is specifically contemplated that this attorney will, over time, have the opportunity to develop other areas of expertise in the area of higher education. Â
Preferred Qualifications
Responsible experience in one or more of the following legal areas: real estate, finance, taxation (particularly in the context of a nonprofit entity), employee benefits and procurement contracting.
Familiarity with university setting.
Active membership in the Missouri Bar, or immediate eligibility for same.
Strong critical thinking skills, sound judgment and strategic ability.
Strong and well-developed client interaction skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated ability to provide accurate, timely, thorough and well-reasoned legal advice to senior administrators and members of the universityâ™s executive leadership team.â‹
Required Qualifications
JD Degree.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law.
