Rutgers Law School is a pioneer in clinical education and currently boasts 16 legal clinics across its two campuses in Newark and Camden providing free legal services to clients. Rutgers Law School seeks to staff our clinics with Staff Attorneys who will provide legal expertise in particular subject matter correlated to our legal clinics.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
Provides civil legal service to clients and client groups including advice, negotiation, litigation, administrative advocacy, and appellate work, pursuant to program priorities and polices.
Provides representation to clients at court and administrative hearings.
Conducts factual investigations; researches law; prepares legal pleadings and other documents; conducts negotiations.
Works with pro bono counsel, staff, students, and others during investigation and litigation of cases
Maintains complete and accurate records and analyze data.
Maintains positive relationships with Rutgers Law School administration, faculty, staff, and students
Cultivates strategic relationships with individuals and entities, such as the New Jersey Courts, law firm pro bono departments, the New Jersey Office of Public Defender's, the New Jersey Attorney General's office, the Rutgers Law School clinics, and others, with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of the specific legal clinic
Represents the clinic in research, publications and at national and regional conferences
Provides training to other legal advocates; prepares materials relating to these presentations.
Participates in committees, task forces, and working groups. Speaks to community groups, schools and others about legal rights and Rutgers Law School services; prepares materials relating to these presentations
Reviews and oversees the work product of support staff members, law graduates, and legal interns.
Develops specialized knowledge in substantive areas of specific law; acts as a resource for other staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
· J.D. from an accredited law school · Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
