The Drug Enforcement and Policy Center (DEPC) aims to shape and enrich public conversations about the intersecting fields of criminal justice and drug policy and enforcement, and their historical and modern impact on society. Center faculty and staff examine criminal and civil laws, policies, and enforcement efforts related to traditionally illicit drugs, with a particular focus on marijuana laws and reform efforts. We promote and support interdisciplinary, evidence-based research, scholarship, education, community outreach and public engagement on these issues and their impacts.
DEPC is seeking a dedicated, professional Legal Fellow for a one-year position to support the centers service engagement project, Opportunity Port. Opportunity Port aims to facilitate the record sealing and expungement application process by connecting those with criminal records with the legal help they need to complete and file a record sealing and/or expungement application. Currently, application preparation and filing services are offered to residents of Franklin, Guernsey, Holmes, Coshocton, and Tuscarawas Counties with eligible offenses in Franklin and Tuscarawas Counties. The Legal Fellow will provide limited scope legal counsel for record sealing and expungement purposes to Opportunity Port clients, collaborate with the Program Manager and project stakeholders to improve project operations, and support the statewide expansion of the programs services.

Responsibilities:
85% Maintain a caseload of limited scope clients. Gain reentry and record relief law experience by working with seasoned attorneys and legal scholars.
15% Promote program services and build community relationships by participating in center outreach. Collaborate with the DEPC Program Manager and legal service providers on statewide program expansion activities, clinics, and other community events. Engage with a community of mission-driven professionals.
Requirements:
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admitted to the Bar of the State of Ohio.
Prior legal aid or related work experience a plus, but not required.
Experience with reentry legal services preferred, but not required.
