Under the supervision of the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Professional Development, the Professional Development Manager will work on firm wide initiatives focused on growing and retaining our top talent and managing and directing lawyer Professional Development (PD) projects. Miles & Stockbridge is committed to diversity and the Professional Development Manager is expected to participate in the firm’s success in supporting diverse attorney talent. Primary duties include but are not limited to the following:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training: Manage and support Professional Development programming, including Miles University, to support the needs of specific practice areas. This includes organizing logistics and timely communications to all constituencies, developing and maintaining materials and training logs, and managing external vendors, to name a few. In addition, assist with curriculum design and general planning of the Associates & Counsel Annual Academy.
Performance Evaluations: Manage all logistical aspects of the mid-year and annual attorney performance review and evaluation processes for associates and counsel, including collecting feedback, coordinating review meetings and preparing performance summaries.
Onboarding: assist with development and implementation of an onboarding program for new attorneys and practice groups, including First Year and Summer Associate Orientation.
Mentoring: assist with design and implementation of mentoring activities; obtain feedback from both mentors and mentees; assist mentors and mentees in identifying and adopting effective practices.
Professional Development Intelligence: keep abreast of trends and solutions to enhance quality and efficient delivery of content, including innovative delivery tools, learning solutions and platforms (e.g., e learning, self-study) and accessible resources.
Reporting/Analytics: manage Professional Development budget, maintain Professional Development records (including CLE compliance) and report on identified issues and trends.
Coordinate training programs with the IT department related to software and skills training.
Provide support to, and collaborate with, the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Professional Development to implement long-term and/or special projects. Play a role in development, launch, maintenance and ongoing evaluation of various firm-wide attorney engagement and retention efforts.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three (3) years of professional development experience in a law firm, law school or professional service organization.
Knowledge and understanding of training issues and trends.
Sensitivity to different learning and work styles.
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite to produce quality written communications, including written documents in Word, presentations in PowerPoint and basin functions of Excel and Outlook.

Comfort with public speaking.
Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills. Must be able to tailor written work product to the appropriate audience.
Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving and good judgement.
Well-developed professional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all organizational levels of the Firm.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in an office setting and is largely sedentary, requiring the routine use of a computer and other standard office equipment. The ability to open file cabinets, lift files, bend and stand on a stool may also be required.
