The UNC School of Government seeks an attorney with a commitment to public service, a desire to teach, and a passion for legal research and writing to serve as our newest Assistant Professor of Public Law & Government. This tenure track position will focus on municipal law, necessitating close collaboration with municipal attorneys, elected city council members, town managers, and other local government officials across North Carolina to help them deliver more effective and efficient services to our state.
In this challenging role, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to advise local governments on their authority and obligations under state and federal law, to develop and deliver legal training to hundreds of local officials each year, and to produce high-quality, high-impact municipal law scholarship. The candidate will develop and share expertise on crucial legal topics such as the sources and limits of local government authority, municipal liability, government transparency, and local government structure.
The person who fills this important position will make a substantial impact on the future of local government in our state. Every consultation with a public official, every class taught, and every piece of scholarship published by the new faculty number will contribute to the School's 90-year legacy of improving North Carolina through better governance.
