The Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking a skilled and experienced Staff Attorney to provide crucial legal guidance and representation to our government officials and departments. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the governance and community directives of our Town.

About the Role: 

As our Staff Attorney, you will be a key legal advisor to the Town Manager, Town Council, and various town departments and boards. This role is instrumental in navigating the complexities of municipal law, ensuring that the town’s activities are legally sound and efficiently executed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Legal Advisory: Offer guidance on a broad range of legal matters including constitutional law, land use, and environmental legislation.
• Document Oversight: Prepare and review legal documents such as contracts, ordinances, and intergovernmental agreements.
• Risk Management: Proactively monitor and advise on minimizing legal risks and enhancing policy development.
• Contract Negotiation: Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with a focus on public services and economic development.
• Legal Representation: Act as the liaison among the Town Manager, Town Council Appointed Attorney, and external legal representatives on specialized legal matters.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctorate with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience.
• Preferably with experience in municipal government.
• Extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal laws as they apply to municipal operations.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines
