CNB is looking for an experienced, motivated, and client- and team-focused individual to join our team as a Commercial Lender ON-SITE in our Jackson market.
JOB SUMMARY
The Commercial Lender is responsible for developing and managing commercial loan accounts that meet established lending requirements with their loan authority (per the CNB Loan Policy) and provide maximum profitability to the bank with minimum risk.
DUTIES
Interviews loan applicants and collects and analyzes financial and related data in order to determine the general creditworthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan request.
Establishes, and negotiates where necessary, the terms under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment method and schedule and collateral requirements.
Approves loans as per the CNB Loan Policy and serves as a contact officer on loans above this limit.
Ensures that loans to existing and new clients are profitable and well-structured.
Collects and analyzes information which reflects the current creditworthiness of clients and the current merits of existing loans by information obtained by direct inspection of the applicant’s business and/or collateral, review of interim financial reports, personal interview, etc.
Monitors loan repayment activities and takes necessary action to collect from past due accounts, which includes watch list accounts and collection efforts on active charge-off accounts.
Assists clients, when possible, on business management skills and financial matters.
Develops new business by contacting prospects and clients; and cross-sells other bank services.
Serves as a member of various committees; including but not limited to: Loan, Watch, ALCO, Compliance, and/or Marketing.
Develops material for and makes loan presentations to the Loan Committee and Board when required.
Participates in community affairs to increase the bank’s visibility and to enhance new business opportunities.
Serves as a contact officer for non-borrowing accounts and loan clients for matters relating to other bank services.
Counsels with and assists in the training and development of commercial credit analyst, as needed.
Undertakes special projects relating to departmental services.
Closes loans and is responsible for proper documentation.
Maintains commercial loan files; including required filing.
Keeps abreast of local and national economic, financial, political and legislative events and climates which could impact bank lending activities.
Follows up on business manager program and supervises and reports to senior lender on business manager activity.
Implements new work procedures and systems to accomplish planning and bank development objectives more efficiently, as needed.
Advises and assists department officers, and staff in their respective functions associated with the areas for which he or she has direct responsibility.
Maintains extensive contact with clients, the public and the community to enhance the overall marketing effort of the bank.
Participates with community organizations and in community projects, as needed.
Maintains and protects confidentiality of clients information.
Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
Remains current in assigned training and continuing education for designation retention (online, video, in-house emails, telephone seminars, etc.)
Complies with all regulatory requirements including Bank Secrecy Act and all others specific to their position.
Performs other various duties as assigned.
CNB OFFICER ROLE
Sometimes the responsibilities of the officer role have been implied, or an example is set by the supervisor. To better clarify the role of a CNB Officer, the following has been added to the officer job description:
The role of a CNB Officer is where the line between an employee “working for the bank”, to “the responsibility for the Bank” is firmly drawn. Officers should be prepared to accept their representation as a leader of the Bank.
Officers understand that they are first an officer of the Bank, and second the officer and manager over their assigned area of responsibility. Officers provide leadership to both those under their immediate direction and those indirectly under them.
Officers represent the Bank and its policies. To the staff the officer is the company. Officers are familiar with company policy, communicate policy to staff and represent the management of the company.
Officers support and participate in Bank sponsored customer and employee related events, and are willing to put in the extra time and effort needed to do so.
Officers represent the Bank in the community and make an effort to serve on community-related committees and organizations. Officers present themselves in a positive and professional manner while visible in the community and both in the workplace and while off-duty.
Officers set an example for the staff in their behavior, professionalism and leadership and take ownership in this role, and should be viewed by their peers as a leader.
Officers manage upward. That is, the officer keeps higher levels of management informed of key issues and situations in a timely manner.
Officers continue to work toward greater understanding and performance in their area of responsibility.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS – INTERNAL
Communicates on a regular basis with loan department, new accounts, and audit staff.
Communicates on a regular basis with branch staff on commercial loan requests and calling on clients.
Communicates on a regular basis with staff on various committee assignments and responsibilities.
Communicates periodically with Senior Loan Officer in setting loan policy and pricing, as needed.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS – EXTERNAL
Communicates on a regular basis with new and existing clients.
Communicates periodically with correspondent banks on participation loans.
Communicates periodically with SBA, USDA and FSA on government guarantee loans.
Communicates with credit agencies, attorneys and accountants regarding clients.
SKILLS

Bachelor’s degree in Business/Finance is preferred; otherwise, must have a combination of applicable education and experience.
Three to five years active commercial lending experience with a sound understanding of basic credit, lending, and loan administration skills; and the ability to teach these skills to others.
Knowledge of lending law, government rules and regulations, loan documentation requirements.
Passion for providing a stellar client service experience to all clients (external and internal) and ability to instill this passion in others.
Excellent interpersonal skills (tactfulness, cooperation, courteousness and customer friendliness) are necessary to represent the bank in a positive manner.
Positive and cooperative approach when working with others.
Excellent written communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely and effectively, with attention to detail for visually appealing output and accurately proofreading publications.
Excellent verbal communication skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively present information to clients and management.
Strong administrative skills with effectiveness in developing tasks and managing resources to achieve targets/goals.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Ability to efficiently and accurately keyboard information, both computer and calculator.
Strong computer skills with a proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
