Job Summary: SUNY Brockport is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Childhood/Elementary Education. The person in this role is responsible for teaching courses in the Department of Education & Human Development, for conducting research and publishing scholarship in childhood/elementary education, and for regular service (including advisement and accreditation activities), at the department, school and College levels. We seek scholars whose research and experience engages directly with schools and communities and includes any of the following (or related) research areas: 1) inclusive, anti-racist pedagogies and teaching in childhood education 2) culturally- and linguistically-sustaining pedagogies; 3) the dynamics of inclusive classroom cultures particularly for students of color, LGBTQ students, multilingual students, and other minoritized learners; 4) equity-oriented teacher education practices and program designs; and 5) equity oriented practices of assessment or technologies. Best consideration given to those applications submitted by September 6th, 2024.
Minimum Qualifications:

• Terminal degree (ex. PhD or EdD) in childhood/elementary education, anti-racist or critical multicultural education, inclusive/special education, or a closely related field must be completed within six months of hire from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university.
• Demonstrated childhood/elementary teaching experience such as K-6 science.
• Teacher certification in one or more of the following areas: early childhood education, childhood/elementary education, or middle grades science education.
• Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively with others, with an appreciation for cultural and group differences.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity through teaching, mentoring, scholarship, or service.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three or more years of teaching experience in childhood/elementary settings
• Dual certification in Special Education (any level) or TESOL (any level).
• Demonstrated teaching experience in Indigenous Science, and/or Traditional Ecological Knowledge areas and/or experience or study in Indigenous languages (including Seneca) or cultures that could support additional programs within and across the University.
• Evidence of work in or collaboration with family- or community-serving organizations.
• Evidence of a viable research agenda or successful scholarship.
• College teaching and advising experience.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
Salary and Benefits: The Minimum Salary for this position is $62,700.
