Job Summary: SUNY Brockport invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in the Department of African and African American Studies to begin August 1, 2025. The position has responsibility for teaching, scholarly activity, and service to the department, campus, and profession. Research specialty is open, but must be within the humanities with a focus on the history/culture of peoples of Africa or the African Diaspora. The person in this role must be able to teach Introduction to African American Literature. Best consideration given to those applications submitted by December 1st, 2024.
Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD or MFA in Africana Literature, Africana Philosophy, or related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university by the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity through teaching, scholarship, or service.
• Experience teaching online courses.
• Ability to teach courses and understand Africa-centered pedagogy and curricular philosophy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supervising students in practicums or internships.
• Awareness of experiential and hands-on opportunities in the discipline.
• Familiarity with Pan-African Political thought and praxis as well as other Africana philosophies.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
Salary and Benefits: The Minimum Salary for this position is $71,250.
